Aggie Community,

Howdy! It’s an honor to return to Texas A&M University as interim president. I’m grateful to the Board of Regents and Chancellor Hegar for their confidence in me and for the opportunity to once again serve my alma mater.

In the last few days, I’ve witnessed the very best of Texas A&M:

All these events have been a wonderful reminder of the spirit and traditions that unite us as Aggies.

At the same time, I recognize that recent weeks have been challenging for our university community. Leadership transitions can create uncertainty, but they can also be opportunities to reaffirm our mission. The resignation of General (Ret.) Mark A. Welsh III, along with other recent issues, has understandably left many with questions and concerns. General Welsh led this university with integrity, humility and a steadfast commitment to our mission. He helped guide Texas A&M through complex times and positioned us for continued success.

My role as interim president is to ensure that all of you — our students, faculty and staff — have the support you need to keep moving forward. To that end, I’ll begin a series of listening sessions with faculty, staff and students across our campuses to hear directly from you. It’s very important to me to understand where we are in this transition, the issues that need to be addressed and how we will take our next steps together. I need your help and feedback to ensure a seamless handoff to the permanent president.

I’m happy to once again serve this university and the people who make it so incredible. Together, we’ll carry forward the same spirit of service and unity that has defined Texas A&M for nearly 150 years, and we’ll keep building a future worthy of the Aggies that came before us and those yet to come.

Gig ’em!

Tommy
