Welcome Back, Students!

Dear Students,
Howdy! I hope that you are as excited as I am for the year ahead. Perhaps you spent your summer working at businesses, studying abroad, on internship, or found yourself in a lab doing cutting-edge research. I hope that you also had time to relax with family and friends. I want to welcome you back, or for the first time, to Texas A&M University.
This past year was filled with a great deal of “firsts” for me. First Aggie football game. First Big Event. First Aggie Muster. And, most recently, first Fish Camp, just to name a few. I have had the chance to listen to incredible stories – of transformation, discovery, innovation, and impact – in which you are the heroes. You are what makes this university so unmistakably special. This is an incredibly exciting time for our university as we build momentum in our steadfast commitment to further enhance Texas A&M and our contributions to the world.
I want to encourage you this year, be it your initial or final one, to experience your own firsts. First to reach out across your major or to other schools and departments to solve a world problem, like the cutting edge, interdisciplinary research being done to combat the Zika virus. First attempt at making a dream a reality with Startup Aggieland. First BUILD site experience. First Silver Taps, to name a few. These opportunities can transform your university experience and, indeed, your life.
The staff and faculty are dedicated to your success in the classroom, in the lab, out in the field, and in the real world. Do great things this year. Share them with one another. Share them with the world.
Gig ’em,
President Young
