Welcome Back, Staff!

MICHAEL K. YOUNG

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

It is a great relief to see you all returning to campus and my thoughts and prayers are with those affected by Hurricane Harvey. The Texas A&M community response to Hurricane Harvey to date has been heartening. We have seen the finest in heroic efforts to save and support others. This week, an ad hoc student group known as BTHO Harvey is rallying to deliver supplies. To support them, please visit here. The university is directing financial donations to the American Red Cross. The Association of Former Students and the Texas A&M Foundation joined forces to help Aggies mobilize to help others.

Thank you to staff who worked onsite and remotely through the weekend to help with continuity of operations. From keeping dining and transportation services in operation to repairing flood damage, to caring for students, faculty and staff evacuated from our Galveston campus, you have embodied the best in our core value of selfless service. And some of our four-legged friends would thank staff as well if they could; we evacuated 35 Houston Police Department horses to our Parsons Mounted Calvary facility until it is safe for them to return home.

It has been a pleasure to meet with many of you this past year and learn about the myriad ways in which your efforts contribute to making Texas A&M a national model for excellence. I am continually in awe of the breadth and depth of your passion for our great university.

You fulfill critical roles in propelling Texas A&M to even greater standards of excellence. My goal is always to ensure that you have the resources you need to continue doing what you already do so well and to help you grow your accomplishments. To each and every one of you, a heartfelt “thank you” for your hard work and tireless dedication, and here’s to a great next academic year, beginning today.

Warm Regards,

Mike
