General (Ret.) Mark A. Welsh III

July 9, 2024

Members of the Aggie Family,

I’m pleased to announce that Peter Lange has been appointed Texas A&M University’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Senior Vice President, effective immediately. Peter has served in the interim role since March with incredible vision and dedication, and I’m delighted to make this appointment permanent.

Peter joined Texas A&M in 2003 and for the last 13 years, he has been responsible for leading one of the largest parking, transportation and fleet operations on any college campus in the country as the Associate Vice President for Transportation Services. Peter’s deep knowledge of the university and its people — and his commitment to respectful collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders alike — make him an excellent choice to continue the important work ahead within Operations.

Peter will report directly to me and serve as a key member of the university’s executive leadership team, advising me on a variety of internal and external issues affecting university operations and working toward improving performance, collaborative effectiveness, cost containment and efficiency. He will also maintain his leadership roles within the Task Force on Campus Emergencies, Transportation Service Advisory and Audio Visual Surveillance Technology committees.

Prior to joining Texas A&M, Peter served as the Systems Administrator and Interim Assistant Director for Georgia Tech’s Parking and Transportation department in Atlanta, Georgia, for four years. He has a Bachelor of Arts in marketing from Georgia State University and has previously served as co-chair of the International Parking and Mobility Institute-Technology Committee and as President of the Board of Directors for the Texas Parking and Transportation Association.

Peter’s appointment comes after a national search that attracted many excellent candidates. I would like to thank the search advisory committee, chaired by Deborah Wright, for their contributions to this process.

Please join me in congratulating Peter on this appointment. Thank you and Gig ’em!

General (Ret.) Mark A. Welsh III, President
