Our Civic Duty

MICHAEL K. YOUNG

October 27, 2020

Dear Aggies,

In America, voting is a right and a privilege. Democracy works best if we all participate in the process. Your vote gives voice to who you want to represent you at every level of government and provides you with the power to help choose the course of our community, our state and our nation.

At Texas A&M, we honor the right for all of our students, faculty and staff to vote and encourage everyone to do so. Early voting is already underway in room L526 of the Memorial Student Center. Although we are taking extra precautions because of COVID-19, we are very pleased that we have been able to maintain physical distancing while also keeping the lines moving quickly. In many cases, voters report waiting for only a short time.

As we exercise our civic duty, I also ask that we continue to engage in civil discourse before, during and after doing so. Thank you for upholding our values of respect and selfless service as you participate in the democratic process, made possible by so many Aggies who came before us and served our nation, some paying the ultimate sacrifice for our right to vote today.

Sincerely,

Michael K. Young
President
