First Football Game

Howdy,

As you may have seen, the Southeastern Conference (SEC) announced today that the first football game for Texas A&M will take place on August 30 at 7:30 p.m. at Kyle Field against Northwestern State.  We are excited about the new season and the opportunities that this news brings to get out in front of many other season opener games across the nation and in a primetime slot for this game.

Given that this is the first time in more than a decade that we will host a regular season football game on a Thursday night, there will likely be many logistical requirements necessary to ensure minimal disruption to class schedules and other considerations, and to make for a good experience for all. To that end, I have asked Dr. Jerry Strawser, EVP for Finance and Operations and a member of my executive team, to work with a cross-campus group to include faculty, staff, students, transportation and parking officials and others to review how this news will impact various groups on and off campus, and to create a plan to address any and all issues.

We appreciate the assistance of the campus community as well as the greater Bryan-College Station community and fans in making for a safe, fun event that night while maintaining focus on a good start to the new academic year. I look forward to sharing the more detailed plan once finalized.

Sincerely,

President Young
