Dear students,
The spring semester is under way and it is wonderful to see you back on campus ready to learn, explore and enjoy all our great university has to offer.
This spring at Texas A&M means many exciting events, opportunities and new places to visit on campus.
New facilities will be opening this semester including the first phase of The Gardens – The Leach Teaching Gardens – on West Campus. The Gardens is an innovative outdoor classroom for faculty and staff to teach students and the public about nature, food production and more, truly a testament to our university's land grant mission.
Also opening will be the White Creek Community Center, the Davis Diamond, which will house Aggie softball, and the E.B. Cushing Stadium for track and field. We have national champion track and equestrian teams, our softball and baseball teams both reached the College World Series last season, and this season the Aggie women's basketball team is chasing their 13th straight NCAA tournament appearance. Come cheer for our spring sports and best of luck to our outstanding student athletes!
So many student-run projects throughout the year display the Aggie core value of service, and each spring, the largest student-run service project in the nation, The Big Event, brings tens of thousands of Aggies together to beautify the local community. This year the project will be on March 24; I sincerely hope you volunteer for this exciting and unique opportunity to serve the community which so richly supports our school. This 360 video captured last year's amazing event.
The School of Innovation or "I-School" is now in operation at Texas A&M where students from any discipline have the opportunity to work together to create, innovate and solve problems. How exciting it will be to see what fruitful endeavors result from this outstanding new enterprise!
Later in the spring, we'll welcome Aggie families for Family Weekend with fun events and plenty of opportunities for you to share our beautiful campus and all it means to be Aggie with those closest to you.
And spring holds one of the biggest days of the year for students and their families – Ring Day, a milestone celebration when qualified students receive their Aggie rings, one of the most enduring symbols of being an Aggie.
I hope you take advantage and enjoy as many of these great events and opportunities as you can this spring.
My best wishes for a successful and happy spring semester.
Thanks and Gig 'Em!
